Interesting to read your blog about travelling with diabetes, especially so close to World Diabetes Day on the 14th November. The campaign slogan for 2009 is "Understand Diabetes and Take Control". Diabetes imposes life-long demands on the 285 million people now living with diabetes and their families. People with diabetes must deliver 95% of their own care, so it is important to be able to manage your diabetes and take control, in a way that is tailored to your personal needs.

One way to ‘take control’ is to carry on with your normal activities like going on holiday abroad. After all, for me, the key word for the 14th November is ‘world’ – how better to commemorate the day than travelling? Having diabetes should not limit people from enjoying their holidays as long as there is adequate preparation beforehand, with advice taken from the relevant medical professional. For example, your travel insurance may be invalid if you don’t declare that you have diabetes so it is important to ensure that you have specialist travel insurance to cover your pre-existing medical condition, take a look at AllClear www.allcleartravel.co.uk. More information on travelling with diabetes, that might be useful, can be found here http://tinyurl.com/yghmj9x

And I look forward to hearing how your holiday went in Disneyland!
